Philip Vlisides

Dr. Vlisides is Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Michigan Medicine. He completed medical school at the University of Michigan followed by a residency in anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He then returned to Michigan Medicine to complete a T32 fellowship in perioperative neuroscience, and he subsequently received an NIH K23 award for studying neurocognitive recovery after surgery. Dr. Vlisides also graduated from the prestigious University of Michigan Clinical Trials Academy, and he now serves as the Executive Director of Clinical Neuroscience research within the Department of Anesthesiology. He leads a research team that seeks to optimize brain health for surgical patients, and he currently has an NIH R01 (R01AG075005) to test whether caffeine prevents postoperative delirium in older surgical patients. He serves as Dual-PI with Dr. Sharon K. Inouye for the PCORI-funded ENHANCE Trial.
